We understand that care needs can be urgent. In many cases, Aethena Homecare can begin providing care within 24 to 48 hours of your initial consultation — and sometimes the same day for emergency situations.

Here’s our typical timeline:

Yes. While our primary focus is in-home care, our caregivers can also provide supplemental support to clients who reside in assisted living facilities, memory care communities, or rehabilitation centers in New Jersey.

Many families use our services to provide additional one-on-one attention and companionship for their loved ones within these communities — especially during evenings, weekends, or recovery periods.

Our Services

What types of care we provide and how they work.

We offer a comprehensive range of non-medical in-home care services, including:

  • Personal Care — bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting and mobility assistance
  • In – home Nursing Care — medication management, chronic disease management, wound care and health assessment
  • Companion Care — social engagement, light housekeeping, meal prep and errands
  • Dementia & Alzheimer’s Care — specialized memory care techniques and safety monitoring
  • Post-Surgery Recovery Care — medication reminders, wound care assistance and daily support
  • Respite Care — temporary relief for family caregivers
  • 24-Hour / Live-In Care — continuous around-the-clock care and supervision

Aethena Homecare specializes in skilled and non-medical personal and companion care. Our caregivers are not licensed nurses or medical professionals, and we do not administer medications, perform medical procedures, or provide clinical services.

However, we work closely with healthcare providers and can coordinate care alongside any medical home health services your loved one may already be receiving — creating a seamless, supportive care environment.

Absolutely — and this is one of our greatest strengths. Every care plan we create is 100% customized to your loved one’s specific needs, preferences, and daily routines. Nothing is one-size-fits-all.

During your free in-home assessment, we’ll ask detailed questions about your loved one’s schedule, likes, dislikes, health conditions, dietary preferences, and more — so their care plan reflects who they truly are.

Care plans can also be updated at any time as your loved one’s needs evolve.

Yes. Aethena Homecare has dedicated caregivers who are specifically trained in dementia and Alzheimer’s care techniques, including:

  • Validation therapy and redirection techniques to reduce agitation
  • Structured daily routines that promote cognitive engagement and reduce confusion
  • Safety protocols to prevent wandering and household accidents
  • Meaningful activities tailored to the client’s memory stage and interests

Respite care is short-term, temporary care designed to give family caregivers a break. If you are a spouse, child, or family member who is the primary caregiver for your loved one, respite care allows you to step away — for a few hours, a weekend, or longer — while knowing your loved one is safe and well cared for.

Respite care is available to virtually any family regardless of your loved one’s care needs. It can be arranged on a scheduled, recurring, or on-demand basis depending on your situation.

Our Caregivers

How we hire, train, and match your caregiver.

Yes — every single Aethena Homecare caregiver must pass our rigorous multi-step screening and onboarding process before working with any client. This includes:

  • Thorough criminal background check at state and federal level
  • Motor vehicle record check
  • Verification of professional references (minimum 3)
  • Skills and competency assessment
  • Proof of relevant certifications (HHA, CNA, or equivalent)
  • Ongoing in-house training and annual re-certification

Caregiver matching is one of the most important things we do — and we take it very seriously. After your free in-home assessment, our care coordinator will carefully select a caregiver based on:

  • Your loved one’s specific care needs and health conditions
  • Personality compatibility and communication style
  • Language preferences (we have bilingual caregivers available)
  • Shared interests, hobbies, or cultural background where possible
  • Schedule requirements and location

We believe the right match makes all the difference — and we don’t stop until we’ve found it.

This is a completely normal concern — and we handle it promptly and without any fuss. If at any point your loved one (or your family) feels that the caregiver isn’t the right fit, simply contact your care coordinator and we will arrange a replacement caregiver as quickly as possible.

There are no fees, no penalties, and no complicated process involved in requesting a new caregiver. Your loved one’s comfort and wellbeing always come first.

We strongly believe in consistency, especially for seniors and those with memory-related conditions. Our goal is to provide the same dedicated caregiver for your loved one on a regular basis — so they can build a genuine relationship built on trust and familiarity.

In cases of caregiver illness, vacation, or schedule changes, we will always inform you in advance and provide a vetted backup caregiver. We never leave a client without coverage.

All Aethena Homecare caregivers are W-2 employees of our agency — not independent contractors. This is an important distinction because it means:

  • We handle all payroll taxes, workers’ compensation, and liability insurance
  • Caregivers are covered by our agency insurance policy while in your home
  • We maintain oversight and accountability over their work
  • You are fully protected in the event of an injury or incident on your property

Getting Started

Everything you need to know about beginning care with us.

The free in-home assessment is a relaxed, no-pressure visit to your loved one’s home where one of our experienced care coordinators will:

  • Listen to your family’s concerns, goals, and preferences
  • Evaluate your loved one’s current level of independence and any safety considerations
  • Discuss daily routines, medical history, medications, and personal preferences
  • Assess the home environment for any safety modifications that might be helpful
  • Answer every question you have, honestly and thoroughly

From there, we put together a fully customized care plan for your review — at no cost and with no obligation to proceed.

Yes. To ensure we can provide a consistent and meaningful level of care, Aethena Homecare has a minimum of 4 hours per visit and typically a minimum of 12 hours per week for regular ongoing care.

For 24-hour or live-in care arrangements, different terms apply and will be discussed during your assessment. We’ll always be upfront about scheduling requirements so there are no surprises.

No — we do not require long-term contracts. Aethena Homecare operates on a flexible, month-to-month service agreement. You can adjust, pause, or discontinue care at any time with reasonable notice.

We believe families should have full control over their care arrangement. Our goal is to earn your continued trust through exceptional service — not to lock you in with contracts.

Don’t worry — you don’t need to have everything figured out before calling us. Our care advisors will guide you through every question. That said, having a general sense of the following is helpful:

  • Your loved one’s age and current health conditions (if any)
  • The types of tasks they need help with (bathing, meals, companionship, etc.)
  • The approximate schedule or hours of care needed
  • Whether care is needed urgently or you’re planning ahead

Everything else we’ll work through together — that’s exactly what we’re here for.

Absolutely — we actively encourage family involvement. At Aethena Homecare, we consider family members to be essential partners in their loved one’s care. You will have direct access to your personal care coordinator at all times, and we provide:

  • Regular care updates and progress check-ins
  • Full transparency about your loved one’s daily activities and wellbeing
  • Family care conferences upon request
  • A family-facing point of contact for any questions or concerns

Pricing & Insurance

Costs, payment options, and insurance guidance explained clearly.

Medicare typically does not cover non-medical personal or companion care services — it primarily covers short-term skilled nursing care following a hospitalization.

Medicaid may cover some in-home care costs for qualifying individuals in New Jersey through programs like NJ FamilyCare or the Personal Preference Program. Eligibility is based on income and medical need.

Our care coordinators are knowledgeable about NJ Medicaid programs and can help you understand your options during your free consultation.

Yes — Aethena Homecare works with most major long-term care insurance providers. We can assist you in verifying your policy coverage, submitting claims documentation, and coordinating billing directly with your insurer in many cases.

If you have a long-term care insurance policy, bring the policy details to your free consultation and we’ll help you understand exactly what is covered.

We accept a wide range of payment methods to make care as accessible as possible, including:

  • Private pay (credit card, check, ACH bank transfer)
  • Long-term care insurance (we bill the insurer directly in many cases)
  • Veterans benefits (VA Aid & Attendance program)
  • Medicaid waiver programs where applicable
  • Workers’ compensation where applicable

Yes. Eligible veterans and their surviving spouses may qualify for the VA Aid & Attendance benefit — a tax-free pension that helps pay for in-home care, assisted living, or memory care.

Many families are not aware of this benefit, and the application process can be complex. Our team can help guide you through the eligibility requirements and assist with the application at no additional charge.

No — absolutely not. The initial phone consultation and in-home assessment are completely free of charge, with no strings attached and zero obligation to proceed.

We believe every family deserves access to expert guidance when making care decisions — and that starts with a conversation that costs you nothing. You only pay when care actually begins, and only for the hours of care you receive.
